As summer approaches — and with rising temperatures — beach enthusiasts nationwide naturally rush to find their ideal coastal retreat.

If soaking up some sun without the masses appeals to you, then one Welsh beach has recently earned the title of the nation’s top secret seaside treasure.

Trearddar Bay, situated just south of Holyhead on the Isle of Anglesey, has been crowned as the United Kingdom's top hidden gem for beaches.

The new study - conducted by Insure4Boats - examined more than 250 UK coastal towns using Met Office data, Instagram popularity, and local attractions, and found the North Wales resort to be a standout spot for sun-seekers and water sport lovers alike.

Referred to as 'prestigious' and celebrated for its 'pristine waters,' Trearddur Bay excelled in all categories, earning a flawless score of 10 on Instagram, along with impressive levels of sunlight and minimal precipitation.

No matter if you love kayaking, stand-up paddling, or just enjoying the sweeping ocean vistas, the bay is celebrated as a paradise for those who enjoy outdoor activities.

You'll find numerous activities away from the shore too: tidal pools, picturesque hiking paths, along with various eateries and dining spots — such as the seaside Sea Shanty Café — ensuring guests remain occupied until late into the night.

Situated just steps from the shore, the Sea Shanty Café offers a variety of classic coastal dishes like cod and scallops, alongside more innovative options such as moules frites and Thai fish cakes.

The resort also includes a supposedly haunted family house, remnants of an old forest that sometimes emerge from under the sands, and hosts an annual New Year's Day Spacehopper race—a custom started to support the local RNLI.

Trearddar Bay features its very own golf course along with a lively oyster festival. Adjacent to this bay lies the less-explored Porth Diana Beach, which is popular among enthusiasts of tide pools.

Tied for second place as the United Kingdom's top concealed coastal treasures are Salcombe Regis and Goodrington, located in Devon.

Tucked away in the Sid Valley, Salcombe Regis led the list with more than 49 attractions to explore. Meanwhile, GoodrINGTON stood out due to its protected cove and quintessential British Riviera allure.

Tied for third place were the coastlines of Lydd-on-Sea in Kent alongside those of Mwnt in Ceredigion, Wales.

Only 38 minutes away from London via train, Lydd leads with the most monthly sunlight hours in the rankings. Meanwhile, Mwnt attracted over 4,400 monthly Google searches, making it more sought-after online.

Fourth on the list is Crimdon, located in County Durham, with Ynyslas from Ceredigion, Wales appearing next at number five. Rounding out the top six is Port Erin, situated on the Isle of Man, which takes the sixth position.

On social media, visitors have frequently touted the allure of Trearddur, with one TripAdvisor user penning an entry stating thread :'For eight years, we've been visiting Trearddur Bay; it's truly stunning.' Amazing beaches, hikes, National Trust sites, and pubs.

A fellow user from Trearddur Bay shared: "I've resided in Treardur Bay for approximately 15 years now. It’s wonderful living in such a secure and pristine neighborhood throughout the entire year, which makes me feel quite fortunate."

The beach is exceptionally tidy and monitored by wardens during the summertime; additionally, there’s a lifeguard station nearby. Though the village isn’t known for vibrant nightlife, there are still several spots to visit, and notably, they gladly accommodate families with children.

Lastly, one participant commented: "A lovely, spotless yet tranquil neighborhood. Perfect for strolls, biking, and families with little ones as there are two or three excellent dining spots nearby. Mentioning establishments like the Sea Shanty, Black Seal, and Treardur Hotel, they expressed being highly impressed and stated their intention to return shortly."
