Proposals for constructing a new theme park resort in Scotland have faced yet another setback, after facing prolonged resistance from lawmakers, conservation organizations, and nearby residents.
An emergency public meeting has been set up to discuss the controversial development of Flamingo Land on the banks of Loch Lomond.
The £40 million proposal includes hotels, over 100 holiday lodges, a waterpark, restaurants, and even a monorail.
It's the latest version of plans that were first put forward back in 2018 - but scrapped a year later after public backlash.
In 2020, Flamingo Land returned with a revised proposal, aiming to create a resort that significantly diverges from their current theme park and zoo located in Yorkshire.
However, even with those modifications, the initiative still encounters opposition from residents, members of parliament, and environmental organizations.
The development site is located within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, an area renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, historic oak forests, and distinctive fauna, including red deer.
Earlier this year, the Scottish Government approved the project, reversing a choice made by the national park authority that had turned down the plans due to environmental concerns.

The choice ignited anger, particularly among Scottish Green MSP Ross Greer, who described the authorization as an 'undemocratic outrage,' adding that the proposals would lead to 'irreparable harm.'
He also pointed out that the project had been opposed by several key organisations, including the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, the National Trust for Scotland, and over 155,000 people who signed the Save Loch Lomond campaign.
As reported by the Sun , he stated: "We are swiftly evaluating our choices to keep up this battle. I won’t stop until we have exhausted all possibilities in the effort to protect Loch Lomond."
The park authority has also voiced concerns regarding the 'unacceptable' flood risk stemming from the adjacent River Leven.
A latest report included 49 stipulations for approval, noting that the site can function securely; however, skepticism remains widespread among many people.
Local organisations like the Balloch and Haldane Community Council express their 'great disappointment' with the government’s choice, stating it contradicts the desires of the local population.
Proponents of the proposal say it might generate employment opportunities and enhance tourism in the region. However, public opposition is intensifying, evidenced by a petition against the initiative gathering an impressive 174,000 signatures.
A community gathering has been scheduled for the 30th of May to talk about the park’s next chapter.

Meanwhile, Paultons Park, located on 65 acres at the fringe of the New Forest in Hampshire, is set to unveil a brand-new £12 million theme area. Valgard – The Viking Realm, set for release in 2026.
The park, which has been popular among young kids due to Peppa Pig World, has just unveiled its newest addition: Ghostly Manor – an eerie £3.5 million interactive experience ride.
These developments aim to position it as a strong competitor to some of the country’s largest amusement parks such as Alton Towers, Chessington World of Adventures, and Thorpe Park when it opens next summer.
The Viking-inspired Valgard represents Paulton’s largest financial commitment to a new theme zone so far, designed for teenagers and big kids alike.
