The top underappreciated nations globally have been revealed, with one of them being Montenegro.

According to US News , this Balkan nation remains largely off the radar for most tourists, particularly when compared to its neighbor Croatia.

Yet this tiny nation, overlooking the Adriatic Sea, boasts peaceful shores, ancient hilltop towns, and untamed alpine landscapes.

Notable experiences in Montenegro encompass rafting down the Tara River Canyon, renowned as the deepest gorge in Europe, relaxing on the shingly shores of Sveti Stefan Beach, or trekking within Durmitor National Park.

At the same time, the ancient towns of Kotor and Perast, situated within the UNESCO-listed Boka Kotorska Bay, showcase stunning Baroque structures.

And tycoons can often be found sunbathing off the coast on gigantic superyachts, the result of billions spent on gleaming marinas and the five-star hotels from some of the world’s most exclusive chains that have sprung up along the beaches.

Montenegro boasts its very own version of Niagara Falls, known as the Cijevna waterfall.

The natural waterfall is just a 10-minute drive from Podgorica and, the falls are at their dramatic best in the summer, and Lonely Planet says you’ll find locals taking a dip in their somewhat depleted depths in early summer.

The peak temperatures for visiting Montenegro occur in July and August, with the mercury reaching up to 28°C during these months.

However, June and September can also be quite mild with temperatures climbing up to 24°C.

MailOnline discovered that Ryanair offers flights from London Stansted to Podgorica in June starting at just £31 one-way.

In the meantime, Jet2 offers flights from Birmingham to Tivat for £71, and easyJet provides routes from Manchester to Tivat starting at only £74.
